BAPTISM

BAPTISM IS…

A step of obedience to the Word of God. It’s a physical experience that becomes a marker in our spiritual walk. The Word teaches us to be born again and then to be baptised. By being baptised we proclaim that we lay down the ‘old man’ with its sinful desire and rise up a ‘new man’ in Christ.

Definition of Baptism:

Greek: "Baptizo" - to immerse; to submerge; to overwhelm.

WHY BAPTISM?

We identify with Christ’s death, burial and resurrection – ROM 6:1-4

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Let it not be! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Do you not know that as many of us as were baptised into Jesus Christ were baptised into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Baptism by immersion – MATT 3:16

And Jesus, when He had been baptised, went up immediately out of the water. And lo, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Him.

Baptism is a command, not an option – MATT 28:19

Therefore go and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism always follows conversion – ACTS 2:38

Then Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

And Jesus, when He had been baptised, went up immediately out of the water. And lo, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Him.
Matthew 3:16

BABY DEDICATION

We do Baby Dedications on any Sunday. Simply arrange with the church office so that a Dedication Certificate can be prepared.

"Allow the little children to come to Me and do not hinder them. For of such is the kingdom of God. Truly I say to you, whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter into it. And taking them up in His arms, He put His hands on them and blessed them" Matthew 19:14
